Stretching!

When was the last time you stretched? And I don’t just mean while you roll out of bed each morning. I mean genuinely stretched, with purpose, a plan and goals. Read on to see how important this is.

March 25, 2017 Stretched

When was the last time you stretched? And I don’t just mean while you roll out of bed each morning. I mean genuinely stretched, with purpose, a plan and goals. Stretching can and does benefit everyone, no matter the age, gender, or physical shape and ability.

I would say that stretching, along with drinking water, is the easiest activity that anyone can do to reduce pain, maintain flexibility and gain increased health. This simple act is often overlooked by most everyone I speak to.

No one is carving out a specific time just for stretching alone or with their families. But they should be!

Stretching has many health benefits and can reduce musculoskeletal pain dramatically. Stretching will reduce pain, no matter the location; neck pain, back pain, hamstring pain. Stretching will provide better ranges of motion in you and your children, along with increased circulation. Increased flexibility occurs, which again can help reduce pain as well. Enhanced muscular coordination can be gained, along with better posture, and an increase sense of health and well-being.

You’re never too young or old to start stretching. And you don’t have to preparing for a work out at the gym or home; or have just worked out in order feel the “need” to stretch. Everyone needs to stretch!

I recommend that you and your family set 10 mins out of your morning routine each day to begin to incorporate this vital activity to your health. Not only should you be stretching each day, but so should your children! Most children enjoy this activity with their parents, and your encouraging great health minded activities for them.

Stretching should NEVER hurt. If it does then your either stretching inappropriately or stretching the muscle too far past the point or therapeutic benefit. If it hurts, you should stop. It is possible that stretching can make you sore a few hours after or the following day, this is totally normal.

Please consider starting a new family routine of stretching in the mornings, your Body will thank you!

NOTE: If you have questions or concerns about how to properly stretch, or your organization would like for me to come talk to them about stretching and provide demonstrations, please feel free to call our office to speak to Dr. Vann or leave a comment below.

I suffered with chronic head, neck and back pain for numerous years and tried many aspects of treatment. It wasn’t until I landed in Dr. Vann’s care that I began to have serious improvements.
