Chiropractic is safe alternative health care for woman during all trimesters of pregnancy, as well as women who are may be in need of help with trying to conceive. We understand that through chiropractic care we are affecting the health of both mom and child.
A woman’s body undergoes many phyisiological changes while pregnant. These changes are the bodies way of preparing for gestation of the baby as well as the delivery.
Many of these changes can affect the mother adversely, causing her discomfort and pain, difficulty in walking or moving and inability to sleep. The mother may suffer from back pain associated with her protruding abdomen, pelvic pain or changes, and postural pain and adaptations.
When the pelvis of the mother is misaligned it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby. Over time this restriction is called intrauterine constraint, and this can put the mother and child in distress. A misaligned pelvis may also make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery, which would be head down and prone. The inability to get into proper position could result in a “sunnyside” up delivery, which the child is born in the supine, face up positon. The child could also present in a Breech position. All of these improve baby positioning could also possibly require intervention for delivery, such as forceps, suction or c-section.
The effects of Chiropractic care during pregnancy are far-reaching, and extend beyond the walls of our office. The nervous system is the master communication system to all the body systems including the reproductive system. Chiropractic care directly affects the nervous system, therefore when the spine is aligned the entire body works more effectively. By establishing pelvic balance and alignment through regular chiropractic care as early as possible during pregnancy will aid in minimizing the effects of gestation and labor on mom and child.
Chiropractic adjustments are safe, even during pregnancy. Serious complications associated with chiropractic adjustments are rare. If you have any questions or concerns about your ability to safely receive chiropractic care during your pregnancy, we would love the opportunity to speak with you about these concerns.
Before my first visit, I didn’t have a high opinion of chiropractors. But after a few visits with Dr. Vann, I felt like a new man. Now I am a firm believer in the benefits of chiropractic therapy.
